When we first walked into this kitchen, it was clear it had seen better days. The layout felt restrictive, with walls creating unnecessary divisions, making the space feel closed off. A laundry room door added to the congestion, further detracting from the kitchen’s potential functionality. The cabinetry and countertops were dated and lacked the durability and style our client desired. It was a space that needed not just a refresh but a complete reimagination.
The project presented unique challenges, including demolishing existing structures to open up the space and seamlessly integrating modern features into the new design. We also had to consider how to maximize functionality while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen.
Our Approach: Designing a Functional and Stylish Kitchen
Structural Changes to Open Up the Space
To create a more open and inviting kitchen, we started by demolishing the entire kitchen, including the door to the laundry room. This decision allowed us to reconfigure the layout for better flow. Additionally, we removed portions of the wall structure to accommodate a new 32-inch pocket door, offering a sleek and space-saving solution that added to the room’s overall functionality.
Upgrading with High-Quality Materials
The heart of this transformation was the cabinetry. We installed beautiful J&K Cabinetry featuring solid maple fronts and full plywood construction—completely avoiding MDF for enhanced durability. With soft-close doors and drawers, these cabinets offer both practicality and a luxurious feel.
To elevate the centerpiece of the kitchen, we added a mobile island with 3-inch caster wheels. This innovative feature makes the island not only a focal point but also a versatile tool for cooking and entertaining.
Aesthetic Enhancements That Dazzle
For the countertops, we selected custom 3cm white quartz, chosen for its sleek appearance and low-maintenance durability. This material added a contemporary pizzazz that tied the whole design together.
To complement the countertops, we installed a beveled white marble backsplash, giving the kitchen a timeless elegance. Under-cabinet white LED lighting accentuated the backsplash and created a warm ambiance in the evenings.
We completed the look with new 18×18 Travertine tile flooring, offering a sophisticated yet practical base that ties the space together. Finally, we hung a gorgeous chandelier in the center of the kitchen, providing a touch of glamour and serving as a conversation starter for anyone who steps into the room.
