Modernizing the Heart of the Home: The Kitchen
The original layout of this 1980’s home featured a typical closed-off kitchen, isolated from the main living areas. To create a more open and inviting space, we removed the wall between the den and kitchen, significantly enhancing the home’s flow and making it feel much larger. This change not only modernized the space but also improved the functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The outdated entryway was another area ripe for transformation. The uninspiring entrance, which included a small, unusable closet, was revamped with a new solid mahogany door, stained in dark ‘mission oak’ with a satin finish. We converted the old closet into a stylish display niche with LED lighting, and added a new recessed LED light over the door, creating a welcoming and sophisticated entry.
Upgrading the Kitchen with Style and Functionality
In the kitchen, we focused on maximizing space and incorporating high-end features. We removed the old tall pantry units, allowing for more base cabinets and a stunning ‘stacked stone’ backsplash. The new cabinets, featuring solid wood fronts with soft-closing doors and drawers, offer both beauty and functionality. Central to the kitchen’s new design is a Viking 36″ gas range with a stainless steel extractor vent hood and halogen lights, creating a focal point that any home chef would envy.
The kitchen also boasts a new undermount stainless steel sink with a touch-control ‘Delta’ faucet and soap dispenser, making everyday tasks more convenient and hygienic. The transformation is completed with new recessed LED ceiling lights and elegant travertine tile flooring, laid in 24×24 slabs, adding a luxurious touch to the space. All windows in the home were replaced, ensuring improved energy efficiency and a fresh, updated look.
Creating a Stylish and Functional Den
The den, another key area of the home, was given a contemporary makeover. We painted the far wall in a dark accent color to highlight the large flat-screen TV, creating a perfect spot for entertainment. New pantry units were added to enhance storage, and the original laminate floors throughout the house were replaced with handscraped Italian hardwoods, adding warmth and character. All new baseboards were installed to complete the polished look.
Transforming the Master Bedroom
The master bedroom received a similar level of attention. We replaced the old flooring with matching handscraped Italian hardwoods and repainted the walls in a warm neutral color, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Future plans include replacing the patio doors, further enhancing the room’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.
